In 2017 she created an essay in The Guardian about the suicide of her father's family and chose to adopt her stage name Bea to honor him. Bea together with her younger sister Sinead, were fostered by Helen Moloney (nee Moloney) as a former jockey and teacher in a secondary school. Their family was enthralled by horses and race meetings. Bea worked as a guide at The Irish National Stud in her young years. She knew, however it wasn't something she wanted to pursue as an occupation and she preferred to perform.
