Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. Parents named her Winona after the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother are both authors and editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father came from an ethnically Jewish origin. Ryder also has a half-sister, Sunyata Jubal. Ryder's younger sibling is Uria. Ryder relocated with her family members to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. Here, they did not have electricity. Ryder was a consummate bookworm and would spend her days reading books as she had no television. Ryder aged 12 took up a place at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in the year 1983. Lucas was released in 1986 and Ryder, then just 15 years old, was offered an acting job as a lead actor. Ryder suffered bullying in the high school. Ryder hoped her career as an actress would make a difference. However, that didn't happen. However, it didn't stop her from making plans for her future. In 1988, it was the year that Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that gave her her first big break. Ryder played successful roles for numerous films. In 1993, Ryder was in the running twice for Academy Awards.
